Tasmania Casino and Card Room Gaming

Under the Gaming Control Act of 1993, Federal Hotels, Australian National Hotels and the Tasmanian Country Club-Casino are allowed to offer casino operations, keno and gaming machines.

Tasmania has casinos and several clubs/hotels that offer electronic gaming machines. Tasmanian clubs and hotels that solely operate EGMs usually offer between 10 and 30 EGMs alongside Keno. In 2021, the Gaming Control Amendment (Future Gaming Market) Act was passed, ending Federal Group’s long-standing monopoly over EGMs and allowing hotels and clubs to hold their own venue licenses and EGM entitlements from mid-2023, while Federal Group continues to operate the state’s two casinos under separate casino licenses. The new framework also updates tax rates, license terms and harm-minimization measures for EGMs in casinos and venues.
