Northern Territory Sports Betting

Sports betting is regulated by the Racing Division of the Department of Justice of the Northern Territory and, from 1 July 2024, by the NTRWC under the Racing and Wagering Act 2024, which modernizes licensing conditions, increases penalties and creates a Racing and Wagering Fund supported by levies on licensees. Australia’s first licensed sports bookmaker, Centrebet, was approved in the Territory in 1992 and became the country’s first online sports bookmaker in 1996, helping establish the NT as the main licensing hub for national corporate bookmakers.
